Audience-as-Experts Methodology

Learning through inquiry and dialogue

As trainers, we often have a tendency to assume that our role is to provide all of the information to our participants. However, it’s important to recognize that our participants can be valuable resources in their own right. By tapping into their expertise, we can create a more collaborative learning environment and help our participants to truly own the material.

Envision attending two different trainings...

Audience-as-experts training methodology
In the first, you believe the presenter was knowledgeable in the subject and you learned a few things you hoped you would remember.
You may have had trouble staying awake.
You thought you may have learned something valuable but you were unsure of how to apply it to the real world outside the classroom.
In the second, besides thinking the presenter was knowledgeable in the subject, you also participated in a more active learning experience where you were asked “What do you think?”
You shared your observations and your perspectives through collaborative discussions.
Then, you had the opportunity to teach others what you discovered while delightfully noticing that you have mastery of the subject.

Which training would you rather attend?

Traditional training methods often involve one-way communication where the instructor delivers information and the participants passively receive it. While this can be effective to some extent, it doesn’t always foster a deep connection with the material or encourage active participation. As a result, participants may leave the training without fully integrating the concepts into their own lives, leading to limited retention and application.
The most effective learning happens when individuals truly engage with the material and see its relevance in their own lives. That’s why we embrace the “Audience-as-Experts” method, a unique and powerful training approach designed to deepen understanding, increase retention, and make learning both fun and meaningful.

Flipping the Script

The “Audience-as-Experts” method turns the standard lecture learning model on its head.
Audience as experts - flipping the script

Here's how it works:

Instead of treating participants as passive recipients, they are positioned as the experts of their own personalities.
The “Audience-as-Experts” method creates a dynamic and effective learning environment. When participants actively engage with the material and explain it to others, they process information more deeply and retain it longer.

Turn participants into active contributors and experts of their own personalities, making your sessions more engaging, memorable and immediately applicable.
Experience the difference this powerful method can make in your next training session and empower your participants to truly own their learning journey.

Compassionate Communication

Nonviolent Communication (NVC), also called Compassionate Communication, is a process developed by Marshall Rosenberg in the 1960s. Rosenburg discovered an insightful way of working through the conflict that arises when two individuals have contrasting strategies for having their own needs and values met. His process involves identifying one’s own needs, the needs of others, and the feelings that surround these needs.
